  • How to edit caption on TikTok;
  • Understanding video captions on TikTok;
  • Best alternatives to make caption edits on your uploaded TikTok video.

Can You Edit TikTok Caption After Posting?

The short answer is no, you can’t. There isn’t an option that allows you to add text to the caption after you have posted the video.

If you are familiar with other social media platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram, then you know there’s an “Edit” button and other editing features on the screen that you use to easily edit your captions.

Nevertheless, this doesn’t happen in TikTok.

If you want to Add Text to a TikTok Video, you will not be able to edit the final product directly.

Do not despair - there are some alternatives that you can employ if you want to edit the caption of the original video.

How to Edit a TikTok Video Prior to Posting

So, you cannot directly edit TikTok caption after posting, but what can you edit, then?

TikTok has a powerful editing tool so your TikTok videos can look as great as you want them to be.

Even if you cannot change the caption of a TikTok video after you post it, you can indeed make the following edits beforehand.

1. Add Effects

Is there a new trending effect? Don’t forget to add it to your video! That way, your TikTok video will look cooler than ever. You can add music and multiple text styles as well.

There’s no way to add effects after the video has been posted, so take this into account.

2. Video Covers and Saving as Draft

It is always advisable to save video as a draft before you decide to post it.

This is the best way to ensure that you can quickly download it and make the changes you want.

You can surely set up a posted video as your profile’s wallpaper after posting it, so don’t worry about this.

3. Deleting TikTok Videos

TikTokers can easily Delete TikTok Videos within two taps from their profile page.

If you forgot to add comments, or if there’s something wrong with the video and you only realize it after you watch it, then get rid of it.

You can always create videos from scratch by using the TikTok app on your phone.

How to Edit Caption on TikTok

So, as we mentioned before, there isn’t an option to set up a new caption on the video you uploaded.

Nevertheless, there are three tricks that can help you achieve this.

Check out the alternatives we are about to give you and decide whether they are a good alternative for you.

Method 1: Save Video on TikTok and Re-Upload It

The first method consists of saving the posted video and re-uploading it from your profile.

Although this isn’t the same thing as editing it, our options are clearly limited here.

  • Open your TikTok account, and on the bottom right corner of the screen, next to the record button, tap on your profile icon;
  • Select the video that you want to save. Tap on it, and then select the three horizontal dots;
  • Swipe right on this sidebar until you find an option that says “Save.” Tap on it, and get the video saved. The TikTok video will download directly to your device.

Once you have saved the video from this menu, you can re-post it as a new video.

If you don’t need to edit anything more than words on the caption, do the following:

  • Then again, from TikTok’s home page, tap on the little “plus” icon;
  • This will allow you to choose a video from your camera roll. Select the video that you have saved;
  • Edit the words on the caption, and repost it. This should be enough for you to create a new TikTok caption without making major changes to the video.

Method 2: Save the Video as Draft Before Publishing

Saving TikTok Drafts is something that every smart TikTok does from time to time.

If, for any reason, you mess up with the set duration, captions, or content of your TikTok videos, saving them as drafts on the menu will save you lots of time.

  • On the TikTok main screen, tap on the little plus icon and proceed to edit the video;
  • Before you are about to upload your TikTok videos, add text to them from the side menu, and proceed;
  • Finally, just before posting it, select the option that says “Save as Draft.”

Now, in case you messed up the caption, just delete the video you just uploaded, and select the draft.

This way, you will be able to add captions to this draft, and re-post it before anyone realizes.

Smart, isn’t it? TikTok drafts can’t be ignored!

Method 3: Delete and Remake Your Video from Scratch

Your last resort is to delete the entire video, and make it from the beginning.

  • Select the video you want to delete, and tap on it;
  • Tap on the three dots on the video screen. Here, you need to swipe right until you find the delete option;
  • Tap on the “Delete” icon on this screen, and the video will be removed from your profile.

Then, simply make the video again. You can add text to the caption, set up a new Text-to-Speech part, or even change the whole video at your will.

This might be the most tiring option, but it surely works.

As long as we don’t have a feature that we can just tap to edit the caption, these are our options.
