How to Stop Spotify From Adding Songs

  Karen

Imagine you are listening to your newly created Spotify playlist, and all of a sudden, random songs start popping out.

You might or might not like these songs, but one thing’s for sure: you didn’t add new songs to your actual playlist.

So, does Spotify automatically add tracks, or is it just the wind?

The truth is that the platform does add new music to your playlists even if you don’t want it, although this isn’t always the case.

Many users have had this same problem before. Thus, it’s important to learn how to prevent Spotify from adding songs to my playlist.

In today’s post, we will be talking about:

  • How to stop Spotify from adding songs;
  • Why is Spotify adding songs to my playlist without my permission?;
  • Best ways to use playlists on the Spotify app.

Why Does Spotify Add Random Songs?

Spotify is adding random songs to your playlist automatically due to different reasons.

As you know, the Spotify app always shows recommended songs so you can find new albums that match your musical taste.

But, in this case, you will see two different tabs on your Spotify playlists: “You Added” vs. “We Added.”

Under “We Added,” you will see each song and track that the app added by itself.

This happens due to three main reasons:

  1. You have added less than 15 songs to your playlist: in this case, Spotify will keep adding tracks and extra songs without further notice. This is a common issue that you and other users have certainly experienced some times;
  2. You are using a free Spotify version: if you use the free version of Spotify, you will not only listen to ads and the same songs released by the platform, but the app won’t stop adding songs to playlist;
  3. You are listening to customized playlists created by Spotify: you cannot choose the songs on a curated playlist on Spotify. In this case, if you want to listen to different music, you must create a playlist on your own.

Overall, playlists on Spotify are as good as they get.

You can make a playlist private, add as many songs as you want (up to 10,000, but that’s enough), change the picture of the Spotify playlist, and more.

But, if you don’t want to have more songs than previously set ones, then you need to do the following.

What Does the Enhance Button Do on a Spotify Playlist?

Recently, Spotify released a new feature called Spotify Enhance.

If users struggle to find new tracks, tapping on the Enhance icon will get new songs automatically added to a playlist.

This adds only suggestions to similar songs that you can search and find within the app, so it’s not invasive whatsoever.

How to Stop Spotify From Adding Songs

Now that you know why Spotify keeps adding songs to playlist automatically, it’s time to learn how to get rid of it!

It is worth noting that the following methods work for both Android and iPhone users, so let’s learn how to turn off suggested songs on Spotify.

1. Upgrade to Spotify Premium

Firstly, the best way to prevent Spotify from adding songs to playlist is by upgrading your free account to a premium Spotify subscription.

Premium users don’t face the limitations that a free membership does have.

In this case, suggested songs have their individual playlist and they do not interfere with existing ones.

With Spotify Premium, you can also download any song you like, listen to music with ads, access the offline listening feature, and more.

Simply upgrade to Spotify Premium and forget about Spotify adding songs to your playlist!

2. Disable the “Enhance” Feature

Perhaps you have accidentally enabled the “Enhanced” feature.

For that, you must do the following:

  1. Go to the playlist where more songs were added;
  2. Look for the “Enhance” feature near the playlist button and toggle the button off;
  3. From now on, Spotify will not add songs to your playlist unless you decide otherwise.

3. Disable Auto Play

Maybe you have “Auto Play” enabled on the Spotify app.

In this case, Spotify will add songs whenever you finish listening to each song on your personal playlist.

To get rid of it, mobile users must do the following:

  1. Open Spotify on your mobile device and go to Settings. Here is where you can see your Spotify Listening History, but instead, scroll down;
  2. Look for the option that says “Auto Play” and toggle it off;
  3. From now on, Spotify won’t play songs after finishing your previously set ones.

4. Add Songs to Playlist (More than 15 Music Tracks)

As we mentioned before, if you have less than 15 songs on your playlist, Spotify will consider this a “sin” and will add songs by itself.

Therefore, we simply recommend you add your favorite songs to the playlist so Spotify doesn’t have a saying on it!

5. Create a New Playlist

Lastly, if you have tried everything, but for one reason or another Spotify still keeps messing up with your songs, simply make a new playlist.

You know how to do it: include more than 15 songs, turn off Enhance, and you will be good to go.
