How to Leave a Discord Server from the Desktop App
There are two ways to learn how to leave a Discord Server.
First, let’s learn how to leave a Discord server from the app, as it is the most used version of the platform.
It’s an easy to do process that takes a few clicks.
The process is the same for the Discord app on Mac or PC, the process is the same for both versions.
Step 1: Open the Discord Application
Launch Discord, log in, and look for the server name. Start looking for it from the top left corner until you see the server name,
Step 2: Select the Discord Server
Right-click the server icon. You can do so from the left scroll down until you see the leave server option.
Step 3: Select Leave Server
Select leave server to do so.
A menu will pop out asking you if you really want to leave the server, confirm it.
You won’t be on said server anymore.
When you do so, it won’t appear from your left sidebar anymore. Make sure to say goodbye to the owner or your friends, or don’t. Is up to you.
How To Leave a Discord Server from the Mobile App
To learn how to leave a Discord Server from mobile you’ll just need to navigate an extra menu screen here and there.
It’s a similar process as the one we’ve listed for leaving a Discord server on Desktop.
Again, this process works for both Android phone and Apple phone versions.
Step 1: Open the Discord Application
Look for the server name, and click on it or tap on it for the mobile app.
Step 2: Tap on the Discord Server’s Icon
Next will be to look for the server settings options to leave the server.
Step 3: Tap on the Three Lines Icon
It’s on the top left side, click it.
Next, a side menu will appear. In reality, it’s the menu to navigate the Discord server’s channels.
Step 4: Tap on the Three Dots Icon (Server Settings)
You’ll find the icon (three dots) located on the top right corner of your screen.
From that drop-down menu, search for the Leave Server option on the bottom left.
Step 5: Tap on Leave Server
Select “leaver server.”
The same menu as above will appear asking you if you want to leave the server, confirm it.
Congratulations! Once you’ve confirmed it you won’t see it or appear on the member list.
What Happens When You Leave a Discord Server?
You won’t receive notifications, or appear on the member list of the server.
Other users that you didn’t add will no longer find you.
If you had ownership of the said server, you’d have to transfer ownership to a new member.
When you leave, it will ask you to choose a member to give him ownership.
Once you’ve chosen who will get the ownership, you will leave the server.
Why You Should Leave A Discord Server
Leaving a Discord server may seem weird to some users, after all, muting them tends to do the same.
You do a Discord server when you no longer have use for it, like a school club server or gaming group server that you no longer play with.
Remember that the process and the consequences are the same for both the desktop and mobile versions of Discord.
When you select “leave server” and confirm the action, there is no turning back.
So you’ll need to ask the new owner of the Discord Server to let you in.
