Cryptos and NFTs are all about ownership.

Having a verified account on the OpenSea exchange means that you are a trustworthy and reliable source in the NFT community.

That’s why it’s important for some people to verify their OpenSea account.

As it happens on other platforms, the verification process on OpenSea is thorough and full of details.

Worry not - if your account meets the requirements, you will have that sweet blue checkmark in no time.

In today’s blog post, we are going to provide you with the information you are looking for about the following matters:

  • How to get verified on OpenSea;
  • Things you need to know before applying for verification on OpenSea;
  • Verified collection vs. verified accounts.

OpenSea Verification 101

OpenSea is the largest NFT marketplace around. If you want to find nice, unique, and valuable collections, you now know where to go.

But OpenSea’s popularity creates the need to protect all users from scams related to collections and digital assets.

That’s why OpenSea verification is a must, whether we talk about account or collection verification.

Account Verification Eligibility

As you imagine, not all accounts can be verified on the platform.

OpenSea clearly states its criteria for eligible accounts that can be verified in four categories:

  • Your account must have a profile picture and banner configured inside the platform, you must have never participated in infringing OpenSea’s terms and you should buy or sell at least one NFT recently;
  • A real account strictly involving people that have participated in social innovations, social inventions, high profile public figure, artists, media, and more;
  • Businesses distinguished as relevant in some fields;
  • Accounts with collections items widely known publicly all over the internet.

Clearly, commercial gain accounts and publicity accounts that can be used by other people falsely for devious or dishonest buying and selling also need to be verified in order to protect a specific buyer from the community.

Ineligible Accounts for Verification

On the other hand, users whose accounts are not eligible for the verification process should avoid submitting a request:

  • Accounts that have faced previous restrictions and unusually rare technical problems on OpenSea without providing value;
  • Accounts that use copyrighted material without having a valid license;
  • Accounts regularly controlled by users under 18 years old without true ownership and knowledge offering;
  • Accounts that are suspected of participating in manipulative or deceptive buying, which also breaches protected rights on OpenSea.

Collection Verification Review on Opensea

Collections items that want to qualify for verification should follow more thorough procedures on the platform.

Yes, a blue checkmark on your collection means that OpenSea managed to verify the collections created and linked to a particular group, but not all collections are automatically verified.

  • The collections items revealed on a profile must be publicly available for everyone;
  • A collection that is not highly known will require a trading volume of at least 100 ETH during a certain custom period;
  • People that produce collections without having enough time selling on the platform won’t receive the verification mark;
  • Items not minted on OpenSea, but through a routine contract, will need additional verification, such as adding properties to the draft files of the NFT, and an additional signature needed to verify that the item can be listed on your behalf.

Anyhow, verifying a collection and an account is not the same thing.

For practical purposes, we are going to focus solely on verifying your account first.

OpenSea Verification FAQ

Why Is the Blue Checkmark Not Showing on My Account?

Perhaps OpenSea hasn’t been able to put the checkmark next to your profile icon due to inconsistencies in your application.

The platform might as well remove verification at OpenSea’s discretion if they consider that an account or collection doesn’t meet the criteria anymore.
