How to Download Songs on Spotify To Listen Offline
Spotify Music launched back in 2006, and since then it has revolutionized the music industry.
One of my favorite features of Spotify Premium is the ability to download songs on Spotify for offline listening.
You can listen to your favorite songs, albums, playlists, and podcasts on the go!
It’s a great way to bring music anywhere you know there won’t be any Internet.
And the best part is that your playlists and songs will not lose any audio quality once downloaded.
If you want to download Spotify songs, here’s all you need to know:

How to Download Songs on Spotify
When you download any file from Spotify, you will download OGG files.
You can only play these files in the Spotify App.
And they take space on your device.
This way you can download individual songs or entire Spotify playlists.
Here is what you can download from Spotify:
- Download albums
- Download playlists
- Download podcasts
To download Spotify music, you need to be a Premium subscriber.
Additionally, you can’t download a single song.
You need to put that single song into a playlist before you can download it.
You can create a playlist from a single song by clicking the three-dot icon and selecting “add song to new playlist”.
How to Download Music From Spotify On Mobile
Once you created a new playlist or selected a playlist, it’s time to use the best feature of your Spotify Premium account: the download button.
The process works on any Apple or Android device.
- Step 1: Open Spotify.
- Step 2: Use the search bar to find an album or a playlist you want to download.
- Step 3: Click the Spotify playlist you would like to download.
- Step 4: Tap the download icon, it’s a downward-facing arrow.
- Step 5: Once it’s downloaded, the arrow will turn green.
As long as other songs have the green arrow, they should be downloaded.
Once you are all set, turn off the internet and try to play one song.
If it plays, you’ve done it!
Songs from Spotify music will be stored on your device until you click the button again.
Be mindful of your local memory before downloading other playlists.
A single extra song can fill the memory and cause issues within Spotify.
How to Download Spotify Songs On a PC or Laptop.
Now that you know how to download a music playlist to your Android phone, it’s time to learn to do so from the desktop app.

Remember that to download songs from Spotify, you’ll need a strong Wi-Fi internet connection.
Otherwise, you’ll burn through your data.
You can download music using mobile data, but by default, Spotify will block you from doing so.
How to Download Songs on Spotify Without Premium?
Again, the download to offline listening feature is only available for Spotify Premium subscribers.
Free listeners can only play music on the app.
Spotify lets free listeners play music as an incentive to make them buy a subscription.
How to Listen to Spotify Offline?
To listen to Spotify Offline, you need to subscribe to Spotify Premium.
So free users that want to download will need to subscribe to Spotify Premium.
As of today, Spotify has an offer in which you can create a Premium free account for three months.
To begin streaming music offline, simply launch Spotify and search for the playlist with no connection.
Spotify will show you your downloads automatically.
Next, select songs in a playlist and play them!
What Can I Do With The Spotify Files I Downloaded?
Once a download completes, the files will be stored in the local memory of your mobile devices or PC.
However, you can’t really do anything with those files.
As there are few programs outside of the Spotify app that can read those files.
To do so you’ll need help from third parties, and it’s really not recommended.
You can see downloads in the Spotify folder of your device, but modifying them will directly affect the playlist.
It’s better to leave a playlist untouched, if you need to modify something do so directly on the playlist on Spotify.
