One of the best things about the crypto world is the fact that there are plenty of alternatives to choose from.

Binance Smart Chain Network positions itself as one of the best alternatives to the sprawling Ethereum landscape, all thanks to the amazing advantages it provides to its users.

At the same time, MetaMask has become an indispensable tool to use decentralized applications and have a closer experience with decentralized exchanges.

So, adding Binance Smart Chain to MetaMask is a must to unleash the full potential of both MetaMask and BSC.

That’s why today, we will give you information about:

  • How to add Binance Smart Chain to MetaMask with minimal effort;
  • Understanding both MetaMask and BSC and their importance in the crypto environment;
  • The importance of using your wallet in decentralized platforms.

Understanding MetaMask and Binance Smart Chain Network

You’ll notice straight away that by default, MetaMask comes with support for Ethereum blockchain only.

In order to use Binance Smart Chain mainnet, you need to manually add it to MetaMask.

Luckily, connecting MetaMask to Binance Smart Chain (BSC) shouldn’t take much time, but there are still some vital things you must know about both MetaMask and BSC before proceeding.

Pro Tip: Wallets are your go-to passport to manage all different crypto networks out there. For instance, your Binance Wallet Address acts like the private key that allows you to receive BTC, BNB Tokens, and other cryptocurrencies efficiently.

What is MetaMask?

MetaMask is a cryptocurrency wallet that supports multiple sidechains and allows users to interact with decentralized applications by using an internet-connected device.

It comes in two forms: browser extension and mobile app.

Instead of having your crypto wallet on a 3rd party website or platform, your funds are available right inside MetaMask extension or mobile app if you chose to use that instead.

Therefore, MetaMask provides a more personal environment thanks to its true decentralization system.

What is Binance Smart Chain (BSC)?

Binance Smart Chain is a blockchain developed by Binance that runs in parallel to the Binance Chain, featuring smart contract functionality.

BSC is fast, cheap, and efficient, which are just some of the many reasons to connect MetaMask to it.

Benefits of Adding Binance Smart Chain to Metamask

There are many reasons to connect MetaMask to BSC, which are the following:

  • Access Binance Smart Chain DApps: you can explore and use all DApps available on the BSC system once you link the two platforms;
  • Transfer Funds to your MetaMask wallet: transferring BNB, ETH, or other currencies is easier if you complete this process;
  • Greater control of your assets: MetaMask is one of the safest wallets out there, so all of your user data is well protected.
Pro Tip: In case you use your phone to transfer BNB, ETH, or manage cryptos, you can also Enable DApp Browser on Trust Wallet to efficiently perform operations related to DApps.

Do I Need Binance Chain Wallet to add Binance Smart Chain to MetaMask?

No. Binance Chain Wallet is just a wallet that supports Binance Smart Chain network.

To store your crypto on BSC (like BNB, for example), you either need Binance Chain Wallet or MetaMask, or you could simply use Binance platform directly (although we don’t recommend storing large amounts of crypto on platforms out there).

If you plan to use MetaMask to store your crypto on BSC, this article explains how to add BSC to MetaMask.

Installing and Setting up MetaMask Wallet

First of all, it’s fundamental to get your MetaMask wallet pointing towards Binance Smart Chain nodes.

Nonetheless, in order to do this, you must first have a freshly-initialized MetaMask wallet at your disposal.

Step 1: Install MetaMask

You must download MetaMask Chrome Extension by clicking here.

Once you download it, you can check it at the dropdown menu that appears at the top right corner of your web browser.

Step 2: Properly Set MetaMask Account

Since MetaMask will be connected to your device, you must set a secret recovery phrase so in case you lose access to your account, you can use this backup phrase (also called seed phrase) to regain access to it.

We cannot stress this enough - store and save that seed phrase with your life.

Else, accessing the wallet will be a headache, and you might even lose funds on it.

Now that MetaMask is set and ready to go, you can now proceed to link it with Binance Chain.

Step 1: Go To Network Settings in Metamask

Firstly, open MetaMask and select “Settings.” If you are using a browser extension, simply click the right upper corner (where the circle is).

If you are using a mobile app, click the 3-line icon in the upper left corner to access the menu - you will see there Settings.

Once you are inside the Settings Page, find and select “Networks” menu.

This is where we will add new blockchain.

Step 2: Input Binance Smart Chain Mainnet Details

We are going to add two networks: the main and the test net. Click on “Add Network” and input these details:

Mainnet

Network Name: Binance Smart Chain

New RPC URL: https://bsc-dataseed.binance.org/

Chain ID: 56

Symbol: BNB

Block Explorer URL: https://bscscan.com

Then repeat it by clicking “add Network” again, and fill this info to add testnet:

Testnet

Network Name: Binance Smart Chain - Testnet

New RPC URL: https://data-seed-prebsc-1-s1.binance.org:8545/

Chain ID: 97

Symbol: BNB

Block Explorer URL: https://testnet.bscscan.com

In short, Testnet allows you to test the operations you are about to make, while the Mainnet will enable you to properly connect Binance Smart Chain to MetaMask as soon as you can.

Step 3: Transfer Crypto on Binance Smart Chain to MetaMask Address

You can use Binance Smart Wallet, your Binance wallet with any cryptocurrency that is on BSC, or any other 3rd party wallet that supports Binance Smart Chain.

The option to “Add Token” will show up on the screen.

For instance, if you want to transfer BNB, keep in mind that these tokens are driven by Smart Contracts.

Therefore, you need to paste the token’s contract address and wait for the transaction to be included in a new block.

That’s how you fund your wallet on this network!

Closing thoughts - adding Binance Smart Chain to your MetaMask wallet is one of the best decisions you can make.
